I bet this is old news but I just figured it out.

Several studios in Hollywood and Hong Kong apparently have an interest in doing a re-make of the Japanese, over 1 million viewers getting, movie called Detroit Metal City. Distribution of the original has already been agreed for Hong Kong and South Korea and discussions are underway for two dozen more countries worldwide, including the U.S., the U.K. and Australia. Ken’ichi Matsuyama and director Lee Toshio have been in Canada before, showing the movie in the Midnight Madness category of the Toronto International Film Festival.

The Film got over an estimated 1 million views and the 6 current manga volumes have been sold over 2 million times. Ken’ichi. You’re the star man.

After a Death Note remake – which they’ll probably drag on to 3 movies or so – and apparently a Detroit Metal City remake, I won’t even be surprised if they’d make an American version of his upcoming movie Camui or even Norwegian Wood, which has just been made public in Japan. With such high book sales inside and outside of Japan, it can’t mean anything else than success, and of course, a probable remake. Now all I hope for is that the movie will be a good one and won’t bring Haruki Murakami’s book in disgrace. I’m off reading now.

What do you think about all of this?
